What kind of diet do members eat?

We are an ovo-lacto vegetarian community. We eat no fish, sea food, chicken, beef or anything with a face <smile>. We grow over 50% of our own food and 'can', dry and store large amounts from our garden. At this time, (August 2012) we eat a modest amount of eggs and cheese but find ourselves moving more towards a total vegan diet.

Food is a central issue for all people. Each of us grows up with a different environment and many of us have discovered that our health is enhanced or deteriorates based on our consumption habits. So too, does the health of the planet reflect the sum total of humanity’s food choices and the means by which our food is grown and processed. For these reasons, we provide food for ourselves that is ovo-lacto vegetarian. If we are not able to grow it ourselves we are committed to eating food that is locally grown, produced by sustainable methods, and minimally processed, whenever possible.

Members are free to make other choices regarding their diet when they are visiting friends, or at a restaurant etc. Everyone in the community receives a monthly stipend to spend however he/she sees fit.
